Fighting for Davie County's Only Hospital:
Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center/Davie County Hospital has three applications on file with the State to build a replacement hospital for Davie County Hospital. We have done this to leave no stone unturned in our effort to get the State’s permission to build a replacement for Davie County Hospital. This is just another example of our continuing commitment to the health of Davie County and the region.
After we announced plans to build a replacement for Davie County Hospital, Novant Health filed an application to build a hospital in Clemmons.
- They propose to build a hospital just three miles from the location proposed for Davie Hospital.
- Each hospital would cost approximately $100 million.
- If both hospitals were approved, services would be duplicated, which is exactly what the CON law is intended to prevent.
- That means that ultimately insurance carriers and consumers would have to pay a total of $200 million in construction costs if both hospitals are approved.
- Only one hospital is needed to meet the needs of Davie and surrounding counties. And you can help make it a reality.
Don’t let this needless wasteful action move forward. Express your support of a replacement hospital in Davie County—instead of a fifth hospital in Forsyth.
Providing the Modern Hospitals Communities Need
Wake Forest Baptist has acted in a fiscally responsible way in filing applications to replace aging hospitals, rather than building additional new hospitals.
- We have proposed these replacement hospitals in communities where there is only one hospital.
- In the case of Davie County, the existing Davie County Hospital is outdated, has limited services, and is not easily accessible to the majority of Davie County residents.
Unlike Davie County, Forsyth County has four modern hospitals.
- If the Clemmons hospital proposal were approved, that would create five modern hospitals in Forsyth County, while Davie—located next door and the fastest-growing county in the Piedmont Triad—would have no modern hospital.
- Is there a real need for five hospitals in Forsyth County?
Offering Families the Obstetric Services They Want
Our application recognizes the need and the preference of women in Davie County to have their babies born in Davie County. Families deserve this more convenient, and safer healthcare option.
- Currently, women must travel over the Yadkin River bridges to Winston-Salem to give birth, braving traffic accidents and road construction.
- We have proposed OB beds in response to the request of Davie County mothers and families who want personalized care at their own local community hospital.
Background
- Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center plans to invest approximately $100 million in a new hospital
- We will build a 50-bed hospital and an urgent and primary care center to secure the future healthcare needs of this rapidly growing community.
- Four obstetric beds are also proposed in our application.
- The new hospital will be conveniently located with easy access from I-40 and will provide a wide range of services to meet the healthcare needs of the region’s communities.
- All employees of Davie County Hospital will be offered jobs, and we anticipate hiring more than 160 additional people to work in the new hospital
- Davie County Hospital will remain open until the new hospital is occupied and will continue to improve its services.
- The new hospital will be a four-story building containing 167,000 square feet with ample and convenient parking on the 25-acre site.
- For more information on the hospital site, click here.
- A 10-bed observation unit where patients with possible heart attack or strokes can be monitored and treated.
- Two operating rooms so patients will not have to drive to Winston-Salem as frequently.
- Additional surgeons are expected to join the medical staff.
- Medical-surgical services
- Physical and respiratory therapy
- Endoscopy
- Lab and diagnostic imaging services including mammography, CT and MRI
- An emergency room staffed by a physician 24 hours, every day.
In a scientific survey taken last fall, 78% of Davie County residents said they favored the WFUBMC/DCH proposal. In Clemmons, 42% of respondents favored our proposal (compared to 32% for Novant’s). If you agree, show your support now!
